Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 (ESV)

The ‘historic’ West Durham Baptist Church is centered on the infallible Word of God. It can be seen and heard through the preaching and the teaching during the Sunday morning sermon and beyond. With the help of our teaching arm of the church, which is the Board of Christian Education, we have classes and programs in place for all age groups. They include Sunday School, Adult and Youth Bible Studies, Youth Church and Vacation Bible School, just to name a few. These classes and programs promote learning and spiritual growth in Christ through application of the Word of God as an necessary part of everyday living.

One of the highlights for the youth on Sunday morning is the L.I.T. Experience, which is church for teens and young children. Currently, the L.I.T. Experience occurs on the 2nd and 4th Sundays.

Worship

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24 (ESV)

At West Durham Baptist Church, we have a heart for God and a passion for worship. Our Music Ministry and Dance and Worship Arts Ministries are at the very heart of our worship experience. During our worship services, music may range from the current top ten to Negro Spirituals, Hymns, Gospel or Gospel instrumentals. Although music is rendered by a different choir each Sunday, oftentimes along with our Praise and Worship Team, the worship atmosphere is consistently going higher every Sunday.

Our talented Music and Dance Ministries are both comprised of various age groups, which contain youth to mature adults. As we continue to grow together spiritually as a church body, we are excited about the future expansion of these ministries and their effect on taking our worship experience to another level.

Our worship time is at 10 A.M. every Sunday morning.

Works

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,
you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40 (ESV)

We at West Durham Baptist Church understand that the work of the church is varied, and that there are different types of works of the church. The first type represents the ‘Work of the Church,’ which includes those ministries that align with the Biblical Mandate. The second type represents ‘Church Work’ which is specific to the church itself. Please refer to our Ministries section for a full list of our church ministries and their functions. Also download the 4Ws diagram to see how our ministries are categorized under the 4Ws.

Even with all the wonderful ministries that are functioning in our church and serving in much needed areas, our focus is continuously on the true work of the church, which involves caring for and meeting needs of others, in the form of resources, as well as in the form of education and information.

Witness

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 ESV

At West Durham Baptist Church, The ministry areas which fall under the heading of Witness are focused on the needs beyond the doors of our local church. Christ has called us to be his representatives in our local community and abroad; therefore, WDBC ministries which fall under the heading of Witness are designed to mobilize the ministries of the church, particularly for evangelism, outreach, missionary work, and soul-winning.
